Okay, I went out and did a recovery spin tonight and did a lot of thinking. No music in the ear, no heat pads in my shoes (no booties either), clear mind, cold toes!! Anyways, I took in the cold and thought of all those riders who are down south right now training, warm with ample opportunity for climbing. Their mountains are my man made hills, their one layer of clothing is my 3-4 layers, their 3-5 hour rides are my 1-2 hour rides but in the end we share the same sun (theirs closer then mine), we share the same air (mine maybe a bit more polluted, theirs maybe a bit thinner), and we share the same passion for biking. We all have different approaches, commitments and different lifestyles. My schedule does not allow for 2-3 weeks or the 3-4 months south of the border training time and there is not much I can do about it. I put those layers on and create warmth, I will climb those hills and pretend they are mountains and I will continue to push myself with what I have available to me.
At the end of the day I look at my kids and husband and I know how lucky I am to have their support and encouragement. They allow me to better myself, their belief in me can not be found south of the border, my training rides are here at home, where I belong.
"What your mind conceives, your body achieves."
Cheers,
Sue
