Wind, Snow, Cold and all.

Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009
If there was any time to use the "I'm a girl, it's too cold and windy out" card, today was the day! But that just ain't me!! We live by the saying "suck it up buttercup". I met with the same group of guys as in the past, for the Sunday winter rides (WRCS ride #8). The temperature was -11°C + wind chill. I was the only girl once again (Kim had some painting to do, or so she said!) There was a strong wind coming from the west and the roads were snowy/slushy. The ride began once again from St. Clair Beach, at The Second Cup. We started out going into the wind then headed south. Soon after we headed east toward Belle River with the wind at our backs. At one point a couple of riders stopped, the wind was so strong that without pedaling I was able to just coast and still gain speed! The sun peeped out every now and again. We got to Belle River and headed north toward the lake. The wind at our side, we were staggered, taking in as much of a draft as possible. Now it was time to turn back and head west! The route we took brought us down the lake road where the houses and cottages shielded us from the wind for the most part! I had one near wipe-out but managed to just tap down and stay upright. After a couple of laps through Russell Woods (a.k.a Russell Woods Crit), the ride would then take us back to St. Clair Beach and finish with a warm cup of coffee. Needless to say, 2 hours went by really fast and it was a great ride! Thanks to Adam (bike sabbath) for putting together these rides. Looking forward to the next one, wind, snow, cold and all!

Cheers,
Sue
