The way I look at it; a barking dog from behind kennel doors, harmless, a barking dog running up the driveway after you, could be trouble! With the weather holding up, chilly but fresh I got out on the bike for a ride. I headed down some county roads, just minding my own business and yep, big black dog on the loose. Across the road it came. I was not out to work on sprints, however that quickly changed, as I shouted "go home". Attack avoided, chalk it up to a dog just wanting to say hi! I continued my ride setting back into a nice steady pace. About 20 km later, not again, yep, barking big white dog running toward me. This time I slowed down, deepened my (high pitched) voice, and told it to "go home". It worked! Apparently he just wanted to say hello too! Harmless they may be, but as a cyclist (and dog owner), it can be a pretty tense moment not knowing if the canine is a 'friend' or a 'foe'. The rest of my ride was uneventful. I just rode, life is good!
