(Thanks Adam for the pics! ; >)
With the snow around, it sure makes it hard to find the trails!! Luckily on the weekend I had the opportunity to ride with a few local road/mountain bike guys. Winter gear is a necessity if you plan on riding for a couple of hours. Saturday proved to be a beautiful day, perfect for a good winter ride. Clear skies, crisp temps, and a good group of people out to have fun. We attempted some single track at Malden park which proved to be unrideable because of the depth of the snow. After making a mad dash, holding the bikes cyclo-cross style, across a semi frozen pond (soakers, what soakers?!), we found good trail. After a lap around the park on the snow covered paved trail we headed to the Windsor trail. It was rideable, the snow hard and slightly packed down from hikers. We plowed our way through, stopping once for a flat repair. We made our way to Brunet and found some fun singletrack. It appeared as though someone had cleared the single track, how awesome. I found myself giggling the whole way through. This is why I love the sport! We tied the ride back into the Windsor trail, on sections that were rather bumpy, giving the upper body a good workout. We ended the 2 hour ride back at Malden where one of the guys and myself took in a couple more laps. We included a climb up the hill where snowboarders made their way down around us. After making our way to the top, the downhill followed. Who needs a toboggan when you have two wheels?! What a blast, just letting it roll. Winter cyclists may be a small breed but we are alive and well and livin' up the weather that Windsor has to offer.
P.S. (The 'sasquach' encounter was brief and odd to say the least!)
Cheers,
Sue
