Bell's Iceman Cometh 2012.......

Iceman 2012 took a downward spiral for me even before the day of the race!  The week leading up to the big race, I had some type of flu like bug that left me with no appetite and bad abdominal pain.  I did very little riding, very little eating, and tried to rest as much as possible.  I was optimistic that maybe come start time things would be good.  Well they were better but not good!  The pro women's field was stacked.  My warm up was ok but my heart rate did not go up.  The start was pretty neutral.  No one wanted to jump out in front and take a hard pull in the wind.  Once we hit the trail, the pace picked up.  I didn't have much zip and slowly lost the front group.  Erin and I worked with a smaller group where we exchanged pulls.  By the time we got to Williamsburg Rd. it was apparent that I was going to pull myself from the race.  I felt weak, numb and my limbs felt real "noodlely".  That's it!  That's my recap!  Not much more to say, other than bad timing to get sick!  A huge thanks to Steve Brown and the many, many volunteers for another awesome event!  It gets bigger and bigger every year!

After resting for a few hours post race, we headed over to the after party for a couple hours.  Well that's when you realize that Iceman is more than just about the race!  It's about end of the year celebration, hanging out with awesome people, listening to great music and maybe getting a bit of your "dance on"!

Cheers,
Sue

  1. Sucks to hear. Same happened to me the week leading up to the Stony Marathon. What was supposed to be 5 firey laps turned into 5 laps of misery. Still only finished 5 mins out from a podium spot but was hoping for top 3 that day. But you can walk away saying you gave it a whirl. Pedal on!
