Boom, boom, boom...........

July, July, July....... it's been a busy month!!  Our month started off with a bang as we celebrated July 1st (Canada) and July 4th (USA) with lots of fireworks!

Those celebrations were followed up by a different type of celebrating!  On July 7, 2012 I raced the Stony Heat Miser Marathon promoted by Tailwind Racing.  The last time I decided to do this race it ended in this (June 27, 2009)!  The weather was in the low to mid 90's (deg. F).  The race was 50 miles = 5 laps of the Stony Creek course!  Perhaps I wasn't totally prepared for the race.  I'm so used to thinking in km's that I knew miles was longer but maybe not as long as it really is!  I grabbed the holeshot at "go" and just pushed a steady pace.  I felt pretty comfortable through 40 miles and then with 10 miles to go (1 lap) my focus was weak and I had to talk myself through it, but I managed!  I came across the finish in 1st place.  Erin came in 2nd (Team Quiring 1-2 finishes), and rounding off the podium was Bonnie Karas (Fraser Bicycle and Fitness).

The heat never really seemed to subside and out for a ride this past week my computer showed temps at 39 deg. C (approx. 103 deg. F)!  The strong south breeze somehow managed to keep me comfortable!  :)

I have said this many times, but we live in the flattest area possible!!  On the rail trail near my home there is the following sign.  You know for a fact that things are flat when you see this sign and then the "Steep Slope Ahead"......

This is the "Steep Slope" right after the sign:

This is the "Steep Slope" looking back at it:

Enjoy the ride, be safe and stay cool!

Cheers,
Sue
